Description
The Capitol Theatre is launching the third year of our Creators’ Unit with a diverse group of writers and creators from across the region. We are also accepting submissions for the final project in the 2025 unit. We hope that our Creators’ Unit will lead to world premiere productions on both of our stages, inspire local arts professionals to create new work for this community, and create connections between the broader arts community and Northumberland County.
Creators will meet bi-monthly throughout the year, receive dramaturgical feedback, and work towards readings, workshops, and public presentations in the fall of 2024. Creators are paid a small stipend, and offered development opportunities throughout the season, with dramaturgy and direction from Artistic Director Rob Kempson. All creators also receive complimentary tickets to the 2025 season productions.
Please send an application expressing your interest in collaborating at the Capitol, with the following:
• Artist Statement. Describe how you came to begin creating for the theatre and why you continue to do so.
• Community Connection. Creators do not need to be from Northumberland County, but it would be great to hear about your connection to this area (if one exists).
• Artist Resume. Showcase your history of participation in the arts community, whether professional or non-professional.
• Project Description. Pitch your project that you’d like to create with the support of the Capitol. Do your best to make connections with the kind of work on our stages.
• Creation Sample. Include an example of your past work, or current project. This sample may be text, video, or audio. Electronic submissions only. No phone calls please.
Email rob@capitoltheatre.com with the subject line “Creators’ Unit 2025 Submission”. Please indicate any/all union affiliations. All submissions are due December 1, 2024. Early submissions are encouraged. Interviews are by invitation only and will occur in mid-late December.
