Call for Entries: Lee Playwriting Prize For New Canadian Plays

Description

Award is $10,000

  1. Open to any playwright with Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  2. The play must be an original work in English or have translation of non-English dialogue. The play must not have received a professional or independently production (i.e., Fringe Festival/Summerworks). The size of cast is flexible; diversity of casting and characters is encouraged.
  3. Plays that have been workshopped are eligible.
  4. Plays must be considered full-length (at least 75 minutes of running time).
  5. The University of Alberta’s Drama Department reserves the right to a first production through its Studio Theatre Season.
  6. Not open to current employees or students of the University of Alberta. Students must have completed their studies by June 2021 in order to be eligible.
  7. Former Lee Playwrights in Residence are eligible to apply.

  1. Separate cover sheet with your name on it and your bio. Please do not have your name anywhere on the manuscript.
  2. PDF is preferred but docx and doc will also be accepted.
  3. This will be a double-blind review.
  4. Email Kathleen Weiss at kw9@ualberta.ca with Lee Playwriting Prize in the subject line.

 

Deadline is May 24, 2024.

Decision by end of July depending on number of applicants.
