Description
Have an idea for a musical? Theatre Sheridan’s First Drafts program is looking for proposals from professional musical theatre writing teams who are interested in working with our 4th-year students to develop a new musical. First Drafts is exactly what it sounds like, an opportunity to develop a first draft of a musical alongside Sheridan’s incredible Music Theatre Performance students. This program encapsulates Sheridan’s dual interest in training exceptional musical theatre performers, and using our resources to produce a more diverse canon of Canadian musicals.
The goal is both to speak to the issues of today, and to represent the stories of the next generation. With Sheridan’s legacy of developing new musicals like COME FROM AWAY and THEORY OF RELATIVITY, Theatre Sheridan is looking for new partners to join us in our next phase of development, focusing on diverse voices and stories that highlight Canadian work. The goal is both to speak to the issues of today, and to represent the stories of the next generation.
The successful proposals will receive a 4-week workshop at Sheridan’s Oakville campus with the 4th-year Music Theatre Performance students, along with professional Directors and Music Directors. Please note, in-person attendance is not mandatory. The final public presentations will be up to 45 minutes of material even though the full musical may be workshopped.
Rehearsals: 4 weeks in Sept/Oct 2025
Stand-and-Sing Presentation: 1 week, Oct 2025
Please submit a proposal to Theatre Sheridan’s Producer, Chris Scholey:
