The Glenn Gould Prize is a $100,000 CDN international award honouring an individual whose lifetime contributions to the arts have enriched humanity. The Prize celebrates individuals who embody the values of Glenn Gould: Excellence, Innovation and Cultural Humanitarianism.
Every second year, the Prize Jury selects a Laureate whose career reflects these values, including previous winners such as Dr. José Antonio Abreu, whose visionary work with the Sistema program in Venezuela transformed music education and has helped transform the lives off children and youth worldwide. Other Laureates include Gustavo Dudamel, Jessye Norman, Leonard Cohen, Alanis Obomsawin, Yehudi Menuhin, Yo-Yo Ma and Oscar Peterson.
The Glenn Gould Prize is awarded across art forms, welcoming candidates from diverse disciplines and cultural backgrounds worldwide. Nominees may be of any nationality and are not required to be professional artists, as long as they have demonstrated a transformative impact through the arts.
Nomination Process
Nominations for the 15th Glenn Gould Prize will be accepted from November 8 to December 8, 2024. Members of the public from across the globe are invited to nominate candidates who reflect Gould’s legacy of artistry and social engagement. Nominations must be submitted through the official online form available on The Glenn Gould Foundation website here. Self-nominations and anonymous nominations will not be accepted.
Selection Process
The Laureate will be chosen by a Prize Jury, composed of distinguished artists, patrons, and cultural leaders from around the world. In selecting the Laureate, jurors will consider several key factors, including each nominee’s body of work, standard of excellence, originality, influence within their field, impact on the wider culture, and humanitarian contributions. The Laureate will be announced following a day of in-depth jury deliberations.
The selected Laureate will be celebrated in 2025 through a series of live performances, educational events, and initiatives that honor their contributions and deepen public appreciation of their art. The Glenn Gould Prize offers a unique opportunity to recognize those whose art uplifts humanity and inspires generations.
