The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts is an award-winning, multi-purpose community arts facility in beautiful Deer Lake Park. The building is named after acclaimed painter Jack Shadbolt and his wife Doris Shadbolt—curator, author and art educator.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work with students on the fundamentals of theatre performance and storytelling. Using improv, acting games, story exploration and creative expression the instructor will give students of a variety of ages and experience a grounding in drama & storytelling.

Must complete a criminal record check (paid for by employer)

Thursdays Oct 12- Nov 16 6 sessions
4-5:30pm ages 6-8 (Max 12 students)
5:45-7:45pm ages 10-13 (Max 12 students)

Saturdays Oct 14- Nov 25 6 sessions (No class Nov 11)
9:30-10:30am age 4-6 (Max 10 students)
10:45-12:15pm ages 6-8 (Max 12 students)
12:45-2:15pm ages 7-9 (Max 12 students)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Prepare lesson plans for each class
- Prepare and source materials with support from FAL
- Teach students the fundamentals of Drama & Storytelling including but not limited to theatre games, acting exercises, scene work, world building, story exploration, teamwork and collaboration
- Foster a safe and brave space for the exploration of this creative art
- create a short end of class demonstration to showcase the learning and skills acquired in the class
- Communicate professionally with FAL & Staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master's or Bachelor's degrees in Theatre Arts, Performing Arts in Drama, Communications or equivalent professional experience
- Teaching experience with children, teenagers and young adults
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent organizational skills
- Good research skills to prepare and choose material for each student on an individualized basis
