To all artists! Mile Zero Dance is seeking exciting new adventurous artistic expressions of interest for the Connections//Collisions Cabaret. This new cabaret series features daring new artistic creations by independent artists.
Have a new solo performance you want to try? Thinking of exploring a new artistic medium? Are you a soundscape artist wanting to collaborate with a painter? Are you a dancer looking at responding to a storyteller? Have an interesting short film you want to share? Or do you just want a creative space to try out a brand new idea you need to get out?
If any of this sounds like you, this cabaret series is for you!
Hosted and curated by Anishinaabe playwright Josh Languedoc, each cabaret showcases a variety of performances and features a different subtheme. Some of the past subthemes have included: Embodiment, Land Relations, MaCabre, Soulstice, Canvassing, and Transports.
A long-term goal of this cabaret is to give birth to exciting new works that can live on and find other professional avenues. In order to help with the development of your piece and to apply for future grants, Mile Zero provides all selected artists the following:
- Video Footage
- Photo Images
- Feedback on the piece (at the request of the artist)
- An honorarium for their work.
- ASL Interpretation
The Connections//Collisions is multidisciplinary and multicultural, encouraging artists and creators from all mediums and cultural backgrounds to apply. We are committed to representing the diversity of the amiskwaciy community. To foster as inclusive of an environment as possible, the Connections//Collisions Cabaret is open to all spiritual and cultural practices, and is committed to including ASL interpretation at every performance.
The Connections//Collisions is committed to supporting artists at the individual level. As such, the Connections//Collisions Cabaret is not accepting applications from large dance school groups or pre-professional dance training programs. We want to prioritize individual artistic expressions.
Please fill out the attached google form. Artists will be contacted on a first come first serve basis and priority will be given to underrepresented communities.
**Please note: all submissions must be 10 minutes maximum in length. Selected artists will only be able to perform in one cabaret slot per season.**
