Encouraging New Works

Gloucester Stage Co. is looking for new plays that reflect a cultural competency with cunning, intelligence, and passion. Individual playwrights and agencies in the United States‚ Canada‚ and the UK are encouraged to submit works with well-crafted dialogue and command of dramatic action. Our performance space is intimate – ideal for powerful encounters between actors and the audience, we are primarily looking for shows with no more than 6 characters. Please take a look at our current and past seasons to better understand the range of our producing interest.

We only accept full scripts – but have a deep understanding of the development process and can offer opportunities for staged readings. We’ve enjoyed seeing various world premieres grow from a staged reading, to professional productions on our stage, and then on to New York City and Paris over our 40 year history. Gloucester Stage is committed to upholding the work of local authors and stories from under-represented communities.
