Teneile is a Jamaican-born, Black, non-binary, and queer playwright and activist living on Turtle Island, based in Kitchener. They are alumni of the Obsidian Playwrights’ Unit (2013), and Artist-In-Residence at Buddies in Bad Times (2016). Teneile is a playwright-in-residence and Artistic Associate for Green Light Arts. Their work has been staged as a part of various festivals including Summerworks and Rhubarb. They are also the Editorial Director of Textile Magazine, an arts collective that supports emerging writers and artists in Waterloo Region. They hold a Creative Writing MFA from the University of Guelph. Teneile is a recipient of a King Charles III Coronation Medal for community advocacy. Teneile’s writing is a vehicle for cultural analysis, identity exploration, and artivism. Their art disrupts monolithic narratives of Black, queer, and Jamaican identities highlighting complexities, and by extension, the metaphors they offer to all identities.
