Chris Stockton

Chris is an Alberta based theatre creator, educator and playwright. After graduating from the University of Lethbridge, Chris started his theatrical career as a high school drama teacher. It was during this time that he started writing work that could both challenge his students and entertain audiences. In 2012, Chris became the founding Artistic Director of Birnton Theatricals. Their Theatre For Young Audiences Crayon Series has seen collaborations with arts organizations such as Stage West and The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra – a large majority of the time featuring World Premieres of Chris’ plays.
Since leaving teaching, Chris has worked as a director for numerous productions, in Education and Outreach for Theatre Calgary, as Artistic Producer of Bert Church Theatre and in props for both true crime television series and the University of Calgary.
Chris’ writing is focused primarily in the areas of Theatre For Young Audiences and One Act plays for large ensembles. His plays The Distance Between L-O-V and E and musical Things Never Heard both received numerous awards at the AHSDFA Provincial Showcase. In 2017 he was a part of the Alberta Playwrights Network RBC Emerging Artist Playwright Mentorship Programas well as being the 2017/18 RBC Emerging Director at Lunchbox Theatre. He is a former “Commissioned” Champion – a one-night “Chopped style” playwriting gauntlet in support of the Alberta Playwrights Network
Chris lives in Airdrie with his wife Ailsa and their two boys, Nathan and Nash.
