Azeem graduated from LAMDA in the year 2001 in London, England, where he tread the boards both in London and around the country before returning to Canada in 2005. He is the recipient of two 2023 Broadway World Toronto Award nominations (Best Actor & Ensemble).
From 2019 to 2022 he developed and produced his first play 1184 centering on the coexistence between Muslim, Christian and Jewish inhabitants of 12th century Andalusia. 1184 premiered at Theatre Passe Muraille’s Mainspace, earning two Dora Award nominations (costume and lighting design).
In continuing his journey as a playwright, Azeem was invited to Guild Festival Theatre’s inaugural 2023-24 Creators’ Unit to develop his second play 1462 focusing on the rich legacy of female Muslim leadership in medieval times.
Since 2023, Azeem has also co-directed Shakespeare Workshop Performance at George Brown College while serving on the Board of Directors at Theatre Passe Muraille.
