R William Muir, originally from Barrie, Ontario, now living in Waterloo, Ontario, has written/co-written two plays. Crime of Compassion, an adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Ninety-three, set during the French Revolution, has a large cast that is suitable for community or school theatre groups, or a producer with a large bankroll. Job’s Blues: A Blue Opera takes the biblical story of Job and sets it in a Chicago blues club circa 1968. R. William adapted the work and wrote the lyrics to all of the songs (there is no dialogue). It had a six-night run at the Harriston (Ontario) Town Hall Theatre in 2012 as a co-production of the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild and the Grand River Blues Society. The play comes complete with a score and demos of the songs recorded by the composers, guitarist Chris Michie, who performed and recorded with Van Morrison in the 1980, and Andy Kulberg, a cofounder of the mid-1960s psychedelic Blue Project.
