Uwe Meyer (1950-2021) was active in all aspects of theatre, including playwriting for over thirty years. A graduate of the Brock University Theatre program, he spent his first three years after graduation working in academia, first at Brock University, then at the University of Windsor. After leaving Windsor he worked as a Production Manager in theatres across Canada and toured extensively in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta. In the mid-eighties he made the move to Theatre Management. For two years he was Artistic Director of Victoria Playhouse, Petrolia and during his tenure founded the Petrolia Summer Theatre. From there he moved to Barrie where he spent six years as Artistic Producer of the Gryphon Theatre. From Barrie he moved to Port Hope and spent the next fifteen years as Managing Director of the Capitol Theatre. While there, he founded the Port Hope Festival Theatre. Uwe started writing plays while at University and had his first work professionally produced in 1980. Since then, he wrote comedies, musicals, children’s plays and “Pantomimes.” Over thirty of his plays have been professionally produced. He has also directed nearly one hundred professional productions.
