About the Playwrights:

Shaun Balbar grew up in a tiny town and trained professionally in dance before acting onscreen for directors like Guy Maddin, Todd Haynes, and George Clooney.

An author of novels and stage and screen projects, his work has achieved international recognition, including the play One Last Song, chosen by the Austin Film Festival for a finalist live reading.

In 2025, he completed the Pacific Screenwriting Program’s Scripted Series Lab, co-developing and co-writing an original comedy series created by Nelu Handa.

Marie Bjørn: I graduated from the Danish National School of Performing Arts as a playwright in 2019 and from the alternative film school Super16 as a screenwriter in 2022. I was nominated for the Reumert Playwright of the Year and Special Mention awards in 2020 for my first play, Apocalypse. A later play You will meet someone elske won the Reumert Special Mention of the Year award in 2022.

Thematically, I often engage with grief, death, anger, love, and anxiety. My ambition is to create works that weave together past and present, inspired by myths, personal narratives, and shared cultural stories and herritage, and I truly believe in writing as a form of resistance.
