About the Playwrights:

Marie Leofeli Barlizo: Montreal based playwright, dramaturg, producer, mentor and arts educator. She holds a MFA in Creative Writing (TV) from UBC and is the first BIPOC to graduate from the National Theatre School’s Playwriting Program. She is an instructor and playwriting mentor at NTS and dramaturg for Teesri Duniya Theatre’s Fireworks Play Development Program. She is the recipient of the 2022 Bernard Amyot Teaching Award at National Theatre School and the winner of the 2022 Jovette Marchessault award for Playwriting. Dessa Quesada-Palm has had more than four decades of performing and theater practice as artist-teacher-organizer-leader, performing and leading workshops locally and internationally. Dessa spent many years with the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA). Now based in Dumaguete City, she works as faculty at the Silliman University and is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Youth Advocates Through Theater Arts, a 2008 recipient of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations and the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ KSSLAP Awards in 2021.  

She served as Vice-President of the Women Playwrights International -Philippines and as head of the Committee on Dramatic Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts from 2017-2019.  

She is also a board member of IMPACT, a global network promoting arts and culture as an integral part of conflict transformation and peace-building.
