PGC members have been paired up with an international playwright to share their work and discuss the craft of playwriting with one another. You can tune into these live events and get a glimpse of what these theatre creators have been up to!

About the Playwrights:

Lara Arabian: A Dora nominated actor, Lara’s worked with companies across Canada including: Citadel Theatre, Modern Times, Outside the March, Aluna Theatre, Neptune Theatre, Canadian Stage, Theatre Passe Muraille, TfT, Studio 180, Pleaides Theatre, Cahoots, Pandemic Theatre, Nightswimming. Most recently she remounted her one-woman show, Siranoush, (which she also wrote) at the Next Stage Theatre Festival in Toronto. As a writer, she’s been a member of the Banff Playwrights Unit and Nightwood Theatre’s Write from the Hip program. She’s also a multiple Dora nominated writer for Outstanding New Play (Youth Division) as part of the writing team for Les Zinspiré.e.s 8, 10, 11 & 12 (Théâtre français de Toronto). Her latest play, ‘Convictions’ received its world premiere at the Festival Les Zébrures in France before kicking off the season for Théâtre français de Toronto.  

Annie George: Annie’s plays include COAST (A Play, A Pie and A Pint), HOME IS NOT THE PLACE and TWA an Edinburgh Fringe double bill and Summerhall Meadows Award winner. TWA, a collaboration with visual artist Flore Gardner, was screened at Women’s International Playwriting Conference, Montreal (2022). She was playwriting mentor for Playwrights Studio Scotland (2020-22); director/dramaturg of I KNEW A MAN CALLED LIVINGSTONE (National Library of Scotland, Scottish International Storytelling Festival, Storymoja Hay Festival, Nairobi); and NZINGA: WARRIOR QUEEN (Edinburgh Fringe 2016), both by Mara Menzies. Annie was awarded Scottish Book Trust’s Ignite Fellowship (2019); the Inspiring Scotland Bursary (Saltire Society/Scottish Book Trust 2016); and a Real To Reel Award for her short film CURRY AND IRN-BRU (2004), which she directed and produced, which screened at film festivals in the UK, Durban, Rotterdam, Pakistan, Suriname, Spain. Other short film work includes, as actor/development producer, DADDY’S GIRL, winner of Le Prix Spécial Du Jury for Short Film, Cannes Film Festival (2001); as co-producer/actor in MY DAUGHTER’S FACE, award-winner in Palm Springs, Avanca Portugal, and Capalbio Italy; and writer/producer of film poem AT RANA PLAZA.
