PGC members have been paired up with an international playwright to share their work and discuss the craft of playwriting with one another. You can tune into these live events and get a glimpse of what these theatre creators have been up to!

About the Playwrights:

Marie-Claude Verdier: Marie-Claude Verdier’s first play, Je n’y suis plus, was produced at the National Arts Centre’s French Theatre. In 2018, Marie-Claude became the first playwright-in-residence at the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), where she worked on her play Apparitions. Her sci-fi play Seeker has won the Michel Tremblay prize from Fondation du Cead and was nominated for a Governor General Literary Award in 2022. It was produced by the Centaur in Montreal in 2026. She is currently working on a sequel. Marie-Claude has an Mphil from the University of Glasgow in Dramaturgy. She is also a dramaturg and has worked with many distinguished directors in Quebec.

Artūrs Dīcis: My characters want so badly to be special that it already becomes comic. And the tragic part is that each of us wants to be special. 

I was born in the Soviet Union, at a time when mobile phones still belonged to science fiction, and now I work in the same job market as artificial intelligence. I am a playwright who learned playwriting while being an actor. I believe that theatre can make the world a better place — and I know it never will. 

My works explore modern people. They don’t want to hurt anyone; they want to live a beautiful life and do so with the best of intentions. More than eight billion good intentions turn the world into a battlefield of interpretations of what “good” really means. 

In my plays, characters worn down by their relationships — tragic in their own eyes — turn into comic figures before the audience.
