PGC members have been paired up with an international playwright to share their work and discuss the craft of playwriting with one another. You can tune into these live events and get a glimpse of what these theatre creators have been up to!

About the Playwrights:

Ciarán Myers is hugely privileged with an MFA in Script Writing from the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shortly after graduating he moved to Kitchener, Ontario, to raise his small family. In Kitchener, Ciarán works hard as an arts administrator, attempting to raise the floor for the whole arts scene, as best he can. Still giving most of his energy to his family, Ciarán has had over 20 intimate productions of his original plays — mostly locally but also in England, Scotland, and the United States, and he has directed a dozen more as well. Ciarán is gratefully an alumnus of the Stratford Festival Playwrights Retreat, Director’s Lab North, a Metcalfe internship at The Theatre Centre in Toronto, and was the first OAC-supported Creator in Residence at Green Light Arts.

Matthew Whittet is a writer, actor and dramaturg who has worked extensively in theatre, film and television for the last 26 years. 

Most recently, Matthew has had two productions of his internationally successful play Seventeen showcased with the Melbourne Theatre Company, and Seymour Centre in Sydney. As a playwright he has written across various genres, including children’s. He has twice been nominated at the AWGIE’s for Best Play for Young Audiences, with Girl Asleep (Windmill Theatre Company and Belvoir St Theatre) in 2015 and We Are the Mutable (Queensland Theatre) in 2022. Other plays of his include Kindness (National Institute of Dramatic Arts); Cinderella, Old Man, Silver (Belvoir St Theatre); Fugitive (Windmill Theatre Co and Adelaide Festival) and Big Bad Wolf (Melbourne Theatre Company and Windmill Theatre Co). In 2013, Matthew’s play School Dance (Windmill Theatre Co, Adelaide Festival and Sydney Theatre Company) was nominated for a Helpmann Award, in the industry category of Best New Australian Work. 

In his screenwriting career, Matthew achieved multiple accolades for the feature adaptation of his play Girl Asleep, which was directed by Rosemary Myers, and produced by Windmill Theatre & Soft Tread Enterprises. The film premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival and in 2016 won The Age Critics Prize at MIFF, as well as the Grand Jury Prize and Futurewave Youth Jury Award at the Seattle International Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2016 AACTA Awards. Matthew’s first television credits were landed in the hugely popular Netflix series Heartbreak High (Fremantle Media, 2022). He wrote episodes 2 and 7 of the show’s first season. 

Matthew is currently working on a slate of new projects, including Easy Tiger’s first childrens series Caper Crew. He wrote episodes 3 & 5 and is also acting as Script Editor across the show.
