Roger Peace
Roger Peace (1936-2017) was a producer, director, writer, choreographer, and actor. He was born in the United Kingdom on May 4, 1936. He started performing at a young age and appeared in the West End with Marlene Dietrich. He eventually came to North America where he settled in Montreal. A member of the Blue Skyliners, a popular rock and roll band in the 60s, they recorded at Monticana Records de Montreal. As a performer he obtained the rights to “Mr Pastry” a well-known act in the UK and toured in through out Nort America, opening for Jimmy Durante and appearing on several well know television shows including The Ed Sullivan Show. Roger was the producer and co-producer of several plays and musicals, including the Canadian premier of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill at the Montreal Jazz Festival. He directed well over 100 productions in Canada, the United States and Europe. Piaf, Loves Conques All was his most successful production as an author. It was originally produced in Montreal and eventually toured Canada, the United States and the UK. The play won several awards including the most popular production at the Toronto Fringe Festival, 2006, the Outstanding Musical at the New York International Fringe Festival, 2007 and played at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His career was long and productive. Other works include: A Matter of Conscience, Come On Smile, Red Hot Mama: Songs & Stories of Sophie Tucker, Sticking Together, Judy by Myself, The Mahalia Jackson Musical, and Here’s to the Ladies and White Gardenia: The New Billie Holiday Musical (both for TV).
