Shauntay Grant
Shauntay Grant is a playwright, poet, author, interdisciplinary artist, and former poet laureate for the City of Halifax. She is associate professor of creative writing at Dalhousie University, and holds professional degrees in creative writing, journalism, and music. Her play The Bridge premiered on Neptune Theatre’s Fountain Hall MainStage in 2019 and earned 10 Robert Merritt Award nominations from Theatre Nova Scotia, winning 4 including the award for Outstanding New Play by a Nova Scotian playwright. Grant’s other plays include KK (Boca del Lupo, Red Phone project), Passing (Eastern Front Theatre, Micro Digitals project), and the ten-minute mono-drama Beyere (Obsidian Theatre Company, 21 Black Futures project). Her theatrical work for young audiences has toured with Neptune Theatre’s Tour Company, and her solo play Maridzambira is in development with 2b theatre company. Shauntay is editor of the anthology From The Ashes: Six Solo Plays (Playwrights Canada Press, 2023).
