An independent writing session with a prompt provided by leader, Yolanda Bonnell, followed by a Q & A about inspiration and process.

Yolanda Bonnell (They/She) is a Queer, 2 Spirit, Ojibwe-Anishinaabe, South Asian, mixed-race multidisciplinary storyteller. Originally from Fort William First Nation, ON (Anemki Wajew), Yolanda and their arts practice are now predominantly based out of Tkarón:to. They are a multi-award nominated performer and artist as well as a published playwright, poet and writer. Yolanda has been a finalist for both the OAC and TAC Indigenous Arts Awards and was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for their Dora nominated play, bug – while My Sister’s Rage won the Playwrights Guild of Canada’s Tom Hendry Drama Award in 2022. Yolanda also penned two poems that were composed into songs for the album Where Waters Meet by Sherryl Sewepagaham and the Canadian Chamber Choir that was nominated for best classical album at the 2026 Juno Awards. They are a director, a movement facilitator and theatre producer (artistic leader of Animikii Creations and co-artistic leader of manidoons collective) and have been playwright in residence at both Factory Theatre and Buddies in Bad Times. They proudly base their arts practice in Anishinaabeg methodologies.
