PGC members have been paired up with an international playwright to share their work and discuss the craft of playwriting with one another. You can tune into these live events and get a glimpse of what these theatre creators have been up to!

About the Playwrights:

Jessica Lowry is a playwright and actor born in Tofino, BC. Selected works include Blackstones and Bathtubs, (book writer/Director) a Canada 150 commissioned musical for the City of Nanaimo; Clear Cut (short play) for the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s Booming Grounds; and Mother Tongue and Unshaken for Pacific Coast Stage’s Messages on Doors reconciliation series. She co-created the interdisciplinary performance Rhapsody with cellist Amy Laing. 

Her work explores resilience, renewal, and freedom within social and ecological landscapes. Her play Flightless, which received an Honourable Mention for the University of Alberta’s national Lee Playwriting Prize in 2025, examines the human struggle for agency amid systems of control. 

Jessica is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program and One Yellow Rabbit’s Lab Intensive. She has performed across Canada and is a member of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association. 

Melanie Tait is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and journalist who lives and works on Gadigal Land. Her plays include The Vegemite Tales, The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, A Broadcast Coup and The Queen’s Nanny, How to Plot a Hit In Two Days and The Royal Experiment. She has two original television series in development with BBC Studios and Easy Tiger Productions. 

Melanie is the 2026-2027 Suzie Miller Award Winner at Griffin Theatre, Australia’s leading new writing theatre. The Queen’s Nanny is a Best Original Play AWGIE nominee, and Melanie is a finalist for the 2026 Queensland Premier’s Drama Prize for her play Mrs Crocodilia. She is currently under commission by Sydney Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre and Outhouse Theatre Co. 

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race was filmed by Paramount+. She has written extensively for ABC, Guardian and News Corp.
