PGC members have been paired up with an international playwright to share their work and discuss the craft of playwriting with one another. You can tune into these live events and get a glimpse of what these theatre creators have been up to!

About the Playwrights:

Colleen Wagner: Playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker, educator, feminist, activist, environmentalist, Alberta born Colleen Wagner’s writing includes prose and creative non-fiction. Recipient of numerous awards, nationally and internationally including a Governor General’s Literary Award for English Drama in 1996 for The Monument, her work has been translated into a dozen languages and continue to be produced nationally and internationally. Other plays include, Armadillos, The Living, Home, down from heaven, The Morning Bird, Sand and Eclipsed. Her feature documentary Women Building Peace (shot in Africa) won best documentary at Silver Wave Film Festival 2016. She divided her time between Toronto and a riverside farm in NB for twenty years, and co-founded and was co-artistic director of NotaBle Acts Theatre Co., Fredericton NB. Short fiction and poetry have been published in various anthologies. She was a professor at York University and has taught numerous courses on playwriting and screenwriting at various institutions across Canada.  Learn more about and follow Colleen on her website: www.colleenwagner.ca 

Paula Stenström Öhman: Freelance playwright and director since 2007, based in Stockholm. Education: filmscript and playwrighting with a background in social science, criminology and anthropology. My work is often based on documentary research and interviews with recurring themes concerning the line between care and cruelty, victim and perpetrator, healing and guilt. Inspired by myths and poetry, I write in the borderland of social realism and dream. Represented at national institutions as well as in the independent performing arts community, my plays have frequently been selected to The Swedish Performing Arts Biennale and some to international festivals with great reception. Also artistic director of Lumor, a reputable independent performing arts company who received The Swedish Association of Theatre Critic’s Award. I have been awarded several times, including The City of Stockholm’s Culture Prize, The Writers Guild of Sweden’s Mankell Playwright Award, The Swedish Ibsen Award, The Royal Dramatic Theatre and Daniel Sash’s Playwright Prize and The Swedish Arts Grants Committees Big Theatre Award. Recent plays: Ambulance (The Royal Dramatic Theatre, The Biennale, Heidelberger Stückemarkt), Lost Lake (Stockholm CityTheatre), My Inferno (Strindberg’s Intimate Theatre, The Bergman Week), 7 kinds of silence (Gothenburg City Theatre). Currently: The Flowers of Evil (The Royal Dramatic Theatre).
