Patrick Young
PATRICK YOUNG, educated in English at the University of Toronto and Theatre on graduate scholarship at Indiana University, counts more than 50 years as actor, teacher, director, and playwright. Plays include Winnie (Smile Company Award, filmed for television by Norfolk), Aimee! (Eric Harvey Award) for the Charlottetown Festival, The Class for the Group of Several, and Abigail or The Gold Medal as Playwright in Residence for the Lighthouse Festival – the last three with music by Bob Ashley. His adaptations of Elizabethan and eighteenth-century classics include The Maid’s Tragedy, The Tamer Tamed, The Rover and Frances Burney’s The Witlings. Patrick was Founding Artistic Director of the Sheridan-UTM Theatre and Drama Studies Program, which he headed for 25 years; he also developed actor-training at Dalhousie University and the Writers’ Colony at Muskoka Festival. He lives in Toronto and still enjoys dramaturgy and occasional appearances on stage and film.
