Makambe K Simamba is Zambian-born, Caribbean-raised, multiple award-winning playwright and actor. She is a University of Lethbridge graduate who is obsessed with telling stories.

Her plays have been shortlisted for both national and international awards including the Sharon Enkin Plays for Young People Award, and the Platform Presents International Playwright Prize. Makambe is proud to be a winner of The Alberta Playwright’s Network Discovery Prize and Downstage Theatre and University of Calgary Uprising Competition for MUD. She also won a Dora Mavor Moore Award for ‘Outstanding New Play’ in the TYA division for Our Fathers, Sons, Lovers and Little Brothers, with which she has toured all over Canada as the sole performer.

Makambe continues to dream, scheme, play and write. She loves challenging herself with new adventures, but remains especially partial to solo shows, thoughtful shenanigans, and nuanced stories that reflect both the depth and magic of the African Diaspora.
