Neil Marr was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and has lived in the Greater Toronto area since 1974. He has worked as an actor, director, teacher and writer. His first play, P.S. Uncle Angus, has been described as both a drama and a dark comedy. It won Best Drama for the 2010-11 season at the ACT-CO Festival. His second play, Bienvenue Oh Trout Lake, a comedy, played to a sold-out theatre at Stouffville’s 19 on the Park Theatre in 2012. Both plays have had subsequent productions.
Neil is also the author of the golf play, Playing Through, and the one-act play, Butter Chicken, which was selected as a finalist at the 2024 Port Perry Snapshots Festival. His latest comedy, The Reluctant Gigolo, will be released in 2025.
Neil has written in various capacities over the years and is the author of the novel Magpies and Sunsets (published in 2003).
