Liam Monaghan

Liam Monaghan is a writer, theatre artist, and educator. His professionally produced plays include Strange/Familiar, winner of the 2023 Sharon Pollock Prize awarded by Alberta Playwrights’ Network, as well as The Boy in the Chrysalis (Victoria Fringe Festival; Halifax Queer Acts Festival) and How to Leave (Theatre Outré, Lethbridge). His theatre practice has been supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Edmonton Arts Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and his essays have appeared in publications including Howlround Theatre Commons and Alberta Views Magazine. Liam is also a professional educator, having taught both in writing centres and fine arts classrooms at the University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, and MacEwan University. He holds an M.A. in English and an M.F.A. in Theatre Practice. Liam is currently based in Edmonton on Treaty 6 Territory.
