Kico Gonzalez-Risso
Kico’s work has been produced at Vancouver’s The Arts Club, Richmond Gateway Theatre, Calgary’s Lunchbox Theatre, Calgary Opera, Lancaster Opera, The Cleveland Institute of Music, Australia’s The Butterfly Club and the United Solo Festival in New York. His work has been translated and produced in Spain and France. Plays include WONDERVILLE, ART ATTACK, WITCHCRAFT, SLEEPWALKER, VOODOO, INQUISITION and A SCORE TO SETTLE. His comedy TIMEPIECE was a Tom Hendry Awards finalist. Kico has been the recipient of an Opera Canada Creation Award. His translation of THE MAGIC FLUTE was broadcast on CBC. He also translated Donizetti’s DON PASQUALE and Mozart’s COSI FAN TUTTE. His poems in English and Spanish have been set to music for choral groups. Chamber operas include SUPERNATURAL NOIR (composer: Cam Wilson), SECRET SERVICE (composer: Neil Weisensell) and LA SENORITA MUNDO (Composer: Njo Kong Kie). Play translations include Goldoni’s 18th Cent. masterpiece LA LOCANDIERA (The Innkeeper) and Lope de Vega’s Golden Age classic EL PERRO DEL HORTELANO (Dog in the Manger). Kico has written many shows for high schools.
