About the Playwrights:

Lawrence Aronovitch’s art is rooted in his biography: a former rocket scientist, a gay man of a certain generation, a descendant of medieval rabbis fleeing the Spanish Inquisition. As an artist he tries to reach into people’s hearts and heads alike, to make them think and feel and, perhaps, help change the world, heal it, make it a better place. His most recent play, Firstborn, portrays a conversation between Eve and the Serpent in the Garden of Eden.

Dr. R. C. Travis Weekes is an award-winning Saint Lucian actor, poet, playwright, director. He is also a cultural critic. He studied Literature at the University of the West Indies, Mona; Theatre at the Jamaica School of Drama and Cultural Studies at the Cave Campus of UWI. As an academic, Dr. Weekes focuses on the creole traditions and discourse in work of Nobel Prize winner, the late Derek Walcott. He uses this research to develop innovative, dramaturgical approaches to his own theatre practice both as a playwright and director. Dr. Weekes’ poetry and drama is fired by the power of the Creole language and traditions of his native Saint Lucia. Currently the Theatre Co-ordinator and a Lecturer at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI, Saint Augustine, Dr. Weekes has written several plays. His publications include: Let There Be Jazz; Bodies, Memories and Spirits; The Fight for Belle Vue and The Field of Power; and most recently Take Me To Mon Repos.
