Born in Montreal, Marcus Youssef is a recipient of the Siminovitch Prize for Theatre for his body of work as a playwright. His fifteen or so plays include Winners and Losers, Ali & Ali and the aXes of Evil, King Arthur’s Night, Jabber, The In-Between and A Line in the Sand. They have been produced in multiple languages in more than twenty countries across North America, Europe and Asia. Marcus is also the recipient Germany’s Ikarus Prize, the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award, the Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award, the Chalmers’ Canadian Play Award, the Seattle Times Footlight award, the Vancouver Critics’ Innovation award (three times), the Canada Council Staunch-Lynton Award and an Honorary Fellowship from Vancouver’s Douglas College. Marcus has been playwright in residence at many institutions, including Tarragon Theatre, the Banff Centre and Australia’s Sydney Festival. He co-founded the East Vancouver artist-run production studio Progress Lab 1422 and teaches regularly at the National Theatre School of Canada, the University of British Columbia and Studio 58.
