Anne-Marie Woods AKA Amani is a Playwright, Poet, Director and Multi-disciplinary Award-Winning, Arts Practitioner. She holds a BA from Dalhousie University Theatre Program and over 25 years of experience developing, planning, producing and creating theatre arts projects as an independent or for organizations.
Describing herself as a British born Trinidadian with “Scotian Overtones” … her life and career has always challenged boundaries and blended multiple genres or styles.
Winner of the BBPA Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in Entertainment in 2013 and one of the recipients of the esteemed Polaris Heritage Prize in 2022. She was the Creative Director, and Co-Writer of the Script Adaptation of The Journey, 2014 and 2015. Her play She Said/He Said on Black love was produced by Black Theatre Workshop Montreal (BTW) in 2016 and her youth production Scotian Journey was produced by BTW in 2019. Her play The Three Friends was presented at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, and her script Cooking For Love is available on the PGC website. Her latest work in development entitled Why Black Women Whisper has had several successful staged readings which included being the theatrical feature for Kuumba 2024 at Harbourfront Centre
