Elisabeth Wagner
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Elisabeth Wagner is the creator of Bell’Arte Music Drama, a unique blending of theatre, music and the literary arts. Each of her plays integrates music with a story line; many recreate artistic collectives from the past.
Her most recent play, Alice’s Gift, tells the inspiring story of pianist Alice Herz-Sommer who survived World War 2 playing recitals in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Other plays include: The Passionate Muse: The Life and Music of Pauline Viardot-Garcia, The House on Middagh Street about 1941 Brooklyn’s “February House” and its residents — W.H. Auden, Benjamin Britten, Carson McCullers and Gypsy Rose Lee featuring cabaret songs of the era; Earthly Delights: A Day in the Life of Colette, featuring 20th C. French songs; and Wanderlust: Songs of Travel, Solitude and Homecoming with a script drawn from the works of poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
Elisabeth Wagner lives in Victoria, BC.
