Janet Munsil
Janet Munsil is the author of a dozen plays, including That Elusive Spark (Finalist, Governor General’s Literary Awards), The Ugly Duchess, Influence, Emphysema (a love story), Circus Fire, Attaboy!, and an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice co-commissioned and produced by Theatre Calgary and Canada’s National Arts Centre (Ottawa). Munsil’s plays have appeared on the maintages of Touchstone Theatre, The Arts Club, Alberta Theatre Projects, The Tarragon, Soho Theatre (London UK), West Yorkshire Playhouse (Leeds) and Persephone Theatre. Her play Be Still was adapted as a feature film. Residencies include the Banff Centre, the Stratford Festival Playwrights Retreat, and UVIC’s Centre for Studies in Religion and Society. Beyond Repair, commissioned by the Belfry Theatre, received development support in 2022 at the Banff Centre through a unique collaboration between the Banff Playwrights Lab and Evo:Classical chamber music program. Munsil lives in Victoria where she teaches playwriting and dialogue writing at UVIC.
