Thomas McKechnie is a settler playwright and organizer originally from a farm in Treaty 6 territory, now based in Toronto in territory covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum. Plays include The Jungle (with Anthony MacMahon), winner of the 2020 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Award for Best New Play, Remembering the Winnipeg General, 12 Letters from Your Lover, Lost at Sea (with Hannah Kaya), 4 ½ (ig)noble truths, and The Thirst of Hearts. As a devised theatre writer, dramaturg and performer they co-created A Wake for Lost Time, there/GONE, A Kitchen Sink Drama, and Tell Me What It’s Called. As an organizer they were involved in a first-of-its-kind campaign to successfully unionize app-based food couriers and are a member of the artist/activist network Artists for Climate and Migrant Justice and Indigenous Sovereignty. They are a queer, working class, neurodiverse seminarian with a bone to pick with capitalism.
