Mark Leiren-Young’s plays include dramas, comedies, musicals, revues and theatre for young audiences. His play, Bar Mitzvah Boy, was longlisted for the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour in 2021 – an award he won for his bestselling memoir Never Shoot a Stampede Queen (which was also adapted for stage). His play, Shylock, has been produced around the world (in multiple languages) since debuting at Bard on the Beach in Vancouver in 1996. Mark is also a an award-winning screenwriter, author, journalist and host of the Skaana podcast where he focuses on life in the oceans. Mark lives in Saanich, BC and teaches creative writing at the University of Victoria.
