Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Obediya broke into Cleveland’s theater scene, (the 2nd largest theater district in the United States), by collaborating with major companies like Cleveland Public Theatre, where he held the position of music composer fellow, and Karamu House, the oldest African-American theater company, .

Professionally he has also composed music for theater productions throughout the United States, including Cleveland Playhouse Theatre, Maelstrom Collaborative Arts, and Radical Buffoons (New Orleans).

Obediya has an ample catalog of diverse work and is deeply rooted in Afro-Diaspora musical aesthetics. His music, films, scripts and theatrical productions have been presented in over 60 festivals internationally and his work has won several awards nationally and abroad. His radio play, Nkrabea’s Destiny won OUTSTANDING CREATIVE PRODUCTION by the National Community Radio Association in Winnipeg. His film adaptation of his stage play Almost Forgotten won BEST SHORT SCREENPLAY in Las Vegas’s Silver State Film Festival.
