Jessica Lowry

Jessica Lowry is a playwright and actor born in Tofino, BC. Selected works include Blackstones and Bathtubs (writer and director), a Canada 150 commissioned musical for the City of Nanaimo; Clear Cut, for the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s Booming Grounds and Mother Tongue and Unshaken for Pacific Coast Stage’s Messages on Doors reconciliation series. Jessica co-created the interdisciplinary performance Rhapsody with cellist Amy Laing. Her writing and creation explore the body’s capacity for resilience, renewal, and freedom amid the tensions of our social and ecological landscapes.

Jessica’s play Flightless, which received an Honourable Mention for the University of Alberta’s national Lee Playwriting Prize in 2025, examines the human spirit’s struggle for agency in a climate of overreach and control.

Jessica is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program and completed One Yellow Rabbit’s Lab Intensive. She received the Christopher Newton and Saunderson Awards for a promising performer as an ensemble member of the Shaw Festival Theatre, has performed across Canada, and is a member of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (CAEA).
