Born in Toronto, Janet Hinton has had her plays produced in Ontario, Alberta and BC. Award-winning Batturi and Delicate State Disturbed reflect her experience teaching in Africa. Plays Break! and award-winning Aiming to Float portray her challenges learning to live with myalgic encephalomyelitis and fibromyalgia. Having faced childhood abuse and long-term bullying, Janet writes with humour and insight about individuals who must let go of old ways of viewing themselves to accept more positive self-images. Currently living in Burnaby, BC, Janet is at work on a play, In the Basement with Phil, and Rooting, a novel about her stint in Africa. With her MFA in drama (playwriting), Janet has taught drama and creative writing to students from ages three to eighty-three, and instructed pain management in an Edmonton pain clinic. She has been a dramaturg for several professional productions and particularly enjoys working with emerging playwrights.
