Gail Nyoka is an oral storyteller, author and playwright, living in British Columbia. She writes and performs for both young audiences and adults. Born in Trinidad, she grew up in London, England, and lived in South Wales before migrating to Canada. Her audio play, Love and Ecstasy, ran on Playwrights Local Radio in Cleveland in 2021. Her stage plays for young audiences include the Chalmers Award Winning Mella Mella; The Oba asks for a Mountain, and King of the Animals, which have run in theatres in Cleveland, Montreal and Toronto. She has been playwright in residence at Young People’s Theatre in Toronto, and writer in residence at Joy Kogawa House in Vancouver. Gail’s storytelling performances have taken her to venues in Canada, Britian and the US. She has published books for children and adults.
