David Laing Dawson

David Laing Dawson worked and lived as a psychiatrist in Hamilton, Ontario. For ten of those years he was Chief Psychiatrist at Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital, and Professor of Psychiatry at McMaster University. He has written 7 novels, including Last Rights, Essondale, and, soon to be released, I Swear to God. His non-fiction writing includes Schizophrenia in Focus and Two Years of Trump on the Psychiatrist’s Couch. Many of his plays have been 50 to 80 minute one act, two-handers, but he has also written the book and lyrics of full length musicals: MacBush, The Musical, and Modern Times, Almost a Musical.
Dawson has written for TV and film and his credits include Manic and Cutting for Stone. His most recent collection of poetry is titled: Love in the Time of COVID.
Retired from Psychiatry, Dawson now lives in West Kelowna with his wife and two boxer dogs. His paintings can be viewed at the Tutt Street Gallery in Kelowna.
