Born in Tkaronto (Toronto) to Hong Kong immigrants, Marjorie has written for opera, theatre, various intersections of performance and media. As a librettist, her operas include Sanctuary Song, The Lesson of Da Ji, M’dea Undone, The Monkiest King, and The Nightingale of a Thousand Songs. Her plays, China Doll and Lady Sunrise were finalists for the Governor General’s Award. Her other plays include a nanking winter, The Madness of the Square, Tales from the City, as well as co-creations The Ward Cabaret, The Year of the Cello and Fare Game: Life in Toronto’s Taxis. Marjorie has been the recipient of 4 Doras, K.M. Hunter Artists Award, Entertainment World – (Best New Work), Harold Award, Bra D’Or Award, as well as the George Luscombe Award for Mentorship. Active as a dramaturge and director, Marjorie is also the Artistic Director of Theatre Passe Muraille.
