Leanna Brodie is an award-winning writer, translator, performer, and educator whose work, including the plays THE VIC, SCHOOLHOUSE, FOR HOME AND COUNTRY, and THE BOOK OF ESTHER, has been seen across Canada and the US. SALESMAN IN CHINA (co-written with Jovanni Sy) premiered at the Stratford Festival in 2024. Brodie’s libretti have been internationally produced: ULLA’S ODYSSEY, the Flourish Prize-winning opera with collaborated with New Zealand composer Anthony Young, toured the UK for two years with OperaUpClose. Brodie is also a leading translator of contemporary Québécois and Franco-Canadian playwrights. Highlights have included David Paquet’s WILDFIRE (Upstream Theatre, St. Louis; Talisman Theatre, Montreal; Factory Theatre, Toronto: 2022 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Best New Play); Anaïs Pellin’s CLEMENTINE (Kleine Compagnie/Carousel Theatre/PHT, Vancouver); Fanny Britt’s BENEVOLENCE (Ruby Slippers Theatre/Pacific Theatre, GCTC); and Rébecca Déraspe’s I AM WILLIAM (Stratford Festival, Théâtre le Clou).
