Yolanda Bonnell (They/She) is a Queer 2 Spirit Anishinaabe-Ojibwe, South Asian mixed-race storyteller hailing from Fort William First Nation Indian Reserve in Ontario. Currently based out of Tkarón:to, Yolanda has been a finalist for both the OAC and TAC Indigenous Arts Awards and was the first Indigenous artist recipient of the Jayu Arts for Human Rights Award. They were also shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for the play, bug (Four Dora nominations). Other plays include The Election (co-written with Natasha Greenblatt), White Girls in Moccasins, Drip, My Sister’s Rage (winner – PGC Tom Hendry Drama Award), Waazakone, Zaka’an and The Eighth Fire Series: The Great Migration and Bagosenim/Have Hope. As a performer and writer, Yolanda has been nominated for five Dora Awards and has been playwright in residence at both Factory Theatre and Buddies in Bad Times as well as having numerous articles and poems published.
