Originally from Okotoks, Alberta, Eva Barrie is a Dora Award-winning director, dramaturg, and creator. Eva has a special love for digging into classical texts for today’s contemporary audiences, and has done so with works such as Untamed (inspired by Taming of the Shrew and Lysistrata), Per Gint: A Sort-of-Adaptation of Peer Gynt, My Co-Mates & Brothers in Exile (utilizing various shakespearean texts and international poetry), and has also ventured into translation of German texts into contempory adaptations. Eva was the 2019-2020 Urjo Kareda Residency recipient at Tarragon Theatre (focus: new play development and artistic direction). She has been a playwright-in-residence at Factory Theatre, Theatrefront, and Tarragon Theatre. Eva is the former Artistic Director of Shakespeare in the Ruff, where she was the dramaturge/director for Portia’s Julius Caesar (named one of the top 9 shows of 2018 by the Toronto Star) and As We Live It (a site-specific, wandering pandemic piece).
