Anais Mateusz West

Mateusz is a trans playwright, actor and creative producer. They are also a Polish settler on occupied Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh lands (Vancouver). Mateusz’s interdisciplinary plays include Tomboy (Chłopczyca) (The Cultch & the frank theatre); Underground Absolute Fiction (Rumble Theatre); Poly Queer Love Ballad (Queer Arts Festival, frank theatre and Zee Zee Theatre, Vancouver, and Theatre Passe Muraille, Toronto); and The Café (Aphotic Theatre, ITSAZOO and PuSh Festival). They’ve performed with the National Arts Centre, The Only Animal, Savage Society, Firehall Arts Centre, Théâtre La Seizième, and more. Mateusz won the Wildfire National Playwriting Competition (2023), PTC’s Fringe New Play Prize (2018), and has been nominated for two Jessie Awards, including Outstanding Original Script. His writing is published in This Is Beyond: A Time Capsule of Queer Experience (Playwrights Canada Press) and Nuits Claires (Éditions Prise de parole.) Mateusz is the frank theatre’s Artistic Producer and a graduate of Studio 58.
