PGC Members win at this year’s Doras!
We’re thrilled to celebrate the achievements of PGC members HAUI™, Makram Ayache, and Evan Bawtinheimer, who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to Canadian theatre at this year’s Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
HAUI™ took home the Outstanding New Musical/Opera award for Aportia Chryptych: A Black Opera for Portia White, a groundbreaking work he wrote and directed collaborating with Sean Mayes (composer/conductor). The production award which straddled a competitive range from the Musical Theatre and Opera divisions, was also honoured with a Best Ensemble award in the Opera division.
Makram Ayache was awarded Outstanding New Play (Independent Theatre Division) for The Tempest: A Witch in Algiers, a bold and reimagined take on Shakespeare’s classic.
Evan won Outstanding New Play (Theatre for Young Audiences Division) for Patty Picker, a charming coming-of-age story on bullying, tolerance, and acceptance. You can get your copy of Patty Picker from the CPO HERE.
Congratulations to all of these artists for their visionary storytelling and powerful voices on Canada’s stages!
