Writing & Dramaturgy Residency in Mexico City – DEADLINE: 2026/10/30

Centro Cultural Casa Hechale invites Canadian and international playwrights, dramaturgs, theatre translators and writers working across performance forms to apply for two- and four-week artist residencies in Mexico City.

The Writing & Dramaturgy strand supports the development of new work through focused writing time, individual artistic conversations and access to spaces for research, rehearsal and exchange. Partial scholarships are available for four-week stays.

A PLACE FOR WORK IN DEVELOPMENT

The residency welcomes projects at different stages: an initial question, a first draft, a substantial revision, a translation in progress or research towards a future performance. Writers are invited to identify the work they wish to advance and the questions they would benefit from exploring during their stay.

Casa Hechale offers a setting where writing can remain in conversation with the stage. Alongside independent work, Resident Artists can discuss their process with the creative team and an artistic advisor, and explore how their material might develop through dialogue and work-in-progress sharing.

The programme is particularly relevant to writers interested in language, cultural context and the relationship between text and live performance, while remaining open to a broad range of subjects and artistic approaches.
