The playwright must be a full member of PGC in good standing.

The submitted play must be at least 60-minutes in length.

The play has/will have had a premiere production by a professional theatre company between Mar 22, 2024, and March 1, 2025.

You may submit the script for EITHER a live stage premiere OR a full-length digital premiere production by a professional theatre company

Regardless of the type or production (live or digital), PGC will only consider the play once. The play will not be eligible to be considered in another year.

The play must be written in English.

If you are submitting a musical, provide score or recording of song excerpts. TOTAL running time of musical excerpts can not exceed ten minutes.

Theatre for Young Audiences plays are not accepted. Please submit TYA premieres using the appropriate form

The play must be an original work.

Adaptations are accepted, but must involve substantial changes in form and/or expression. If the adapted work is not in the public domain, the playwright must include written permission from the original creator(s).

Translations are accepted. Please note: If the winning play is an English translation and both creators are PGC members, the playwright and translator will split the award.

Permission for any copyrighted material included in the play must be obtained.

The creator’s name should be visible on the script.

You pay the $24.50 non-refundable entry fee

You provide a PDF copy of your script.

Your script has page numbers throughout.

You upload any music included in your play as PDF, MP3, MP4 or WAV files. PGC will not accept YouTube, Vimeo links. The music must also conform to the removal of identifying features. If your play does not include music, you still must check this box in order to proceed.

You understand that incorrect or incomplete submissions will not be considered for an award.

You understand that once you make your submission to this award, you may not make requests to change, update or otherwise alter any part of the submission. You would need to redo the entire submission process (including the fee)

You have the right to ask for the submission to be withdrawn until June 1, 2025. You understand that after Mar 15, 2025, the assessment panel may have seen the submission.

You have not/will not submit the same script to more than one category. (Please note the RBC Emerging Playwright Award exemption online)

You understand the criteria of the award and the parameters for submission.

How to credit the applicants

The playwright will be considered the main applicant for this award. If you are shortlisted for this award, we will credit the playwright first and the co-creators second. The playwright will be considered the shortlisted artist and invited to the Tom Hendry Awards. If you would like other arrangements for your credits and/or if you would like to be considered a shortlisted group of artists instead of the individual, please share those details with us here.
