Johnna Wright

Johnna has worked, studied and collaborated in various parts of Canada as a director, actor, producer, dramaturg and playwright, and outside the theatre world as an editor for writers of fiction and memoir. With Patty Jamieson, she co-wrote a feminist reworking of the 1938 thriller Gaslight, which premiered at the Shaw Festival and has been produced across Canada and internationally. Johnna also wrote The Suspect, an adaptation of her mother’s award-winning novel. She is a two-time recipient of Vancouver’s Jessie Awards for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Production, and was a co-founder of the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival, where she occasionally returns to dream up projects that connect classical works to a modern audience. Now more than ever, Johnna believes in the power of theatre to change the way we see the world, and in the need for audiences to have that experience together.
