Sarah Waisvisz was born in Europe and also lived in Japan before coming to Canada at the age of 5. She is of European and Afro-Caribbean heritage and feels most at home in places, spaces, and artistic worlds of intersectionality. Published plays include her solo show Monstrous, about mixed-race identity, diaspora, and the Trans-Atlantic slave trade (Alt.theatre 13.3), as well as Heartlines (Methuen Drama UK, 2023), an epic portrait of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, French-Jewish artist-activists who resisted Nazis as well as heteronormativity. A monologue from Heartlines was also published in This is Beyond: A Time Capsule of Queer Experience. Sarah also works as a director, a performer, and as a professor at Queen’s University.
