Playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker, educator, feminist, activist, environmentalist,
Alberta-born Colleen Wagner’s writing includes prose and creative non-fiction. Recipient
of numerous awards, nationally and internationally including a Governor General’s
Literary Award for English Drama in 1996 for The Monument, her work has been
translated into a dozen languages and continues to be produced nationally and
internationally. Other plays include, Armadillos, The Living, Home, down from heaven,
The Morning Bird, Sand and Eclipsed. Her feature documentary Women Building Peace
(shot in Africa) won best documentary at Silver Wave Film Festival 2016. She divided
her time between Toronto and a riverside farm in NB for twenty years, and co-founded
and was co-artistic director of NotaBle Acts Theatre Co., Fredericton NB. Short fiction
and poetry have been published in various anthologies. She was a professor at York
University and has taught numerous courses on playwriting and screenwriting at various
institutions across Canada.
